For immediate release Stephen Nasse Sets New Track Record to Earn the McGunegill Engine Performance Fast Time Award for PASS South “THE RACE” Top 15 drivers locked in during qualifying at North Wilkesboro Speedway The historic North Wilkesboro Speedway (NC) was alive on Friday, April 8th, with qualifying for the Pro All Stars Series (PASS) South presented by JE Pistons and Roush Yates Performance Parts “THE RACE” event. With a time of 18.700 seconds, Stephen Nasse earned the McGunegill Engine Performance Fast Time Award, a new track record.

75 cars took to the track during qualifying. With drivers from at least 21 states and five Canadian providences on hand, Nasse, who hails from Pinellas Park, Florida, was the quickest driver during the two-lap qualifying session. “We have been struggling a little bit with freeness all weekend,” said Nasse. “This is a very old track. I am proud to be on the pole for this race. Our team really needed a pick-up for this season; we haven’t been doing too great, but this is definitely what we needed.” Justin Wakefield held the pole for a bit during the session with an 18.897-second lap, but Nasse was able to rip off a lap almost two-tenths faster. “I wasn’t expecting it to be that fast,” explained Nasse. “I just wanted to get locked in to the top 15. It is good how it happened. It is amazing.” The top-15 drivers that locked themselves into the race were Nasse, Wakefield, Ryan Moore, Brian Ickler, Bubba Pollard, Augie Grill, Pat Kelly, Andy Loden, Johnny Clark, Jay Fogleman, Cale Gale, Kenzie Ruston, Trevor Sanborn, TJ Reaid and Chris Eggleston. The top-10 drivers will redraw for their starting positions tomorrow. Later in the evening on Friday, five 25-lap heat races will take place with the top-three drivers from each heat locking them into the 300-lap event. Two 40-lap last chance races will take place on Saturday with the winner from each race transferring into “THE RACE” held later that day, where the winner after 300 laps will earn at least $75,000.00. THE RACE

La piste À l’époque, Bruton Smith (Speedway Motorsports Inc.) et Bob Bahre (New Hampshire Motor Speedway) ont fait l’acquisition de la piste pour s’approprier les deux dates d’événement pour Texas Motor Speedway et NHMS qu’ils possédaient respectivement. Dormante depuis, elle a été éveillée l’été dernier pour une épreuve USAR ProCup Series en octobre 2010. Avec près de 80 voitures pré-inscrites pour cette course de 300 tours pour voitures Super Late Models, réussir à faire la grande finale sera un exploit. Les compétiteurs Une brochette de pilotes des plus diversifiée, incluant deux ancien champions Sprint Cup, Sterling Marlin et Geoff Bodine; Les meilleurs du sud : Jeff Choquette, Preston Peltier, Stephan Nasse; et ceux du nord : Ben et Mike Rowe, Johnny Clark, Classius Clark et Ryan Moore. DJ Shaw, un américain, qui pilote pour Précision JLM de Laval (propriété de J. et R. Moglioli) sera aussi de la partie. Les maritimes canadiennes sont représentée par John Flemming, Matt Matheson, Greg Proude et le multiple champion Lonnie Sommerville. Même l’Alberta est représentée avec Brian Levant qui vient de Calgary. La sanction Comme l’épreuve est sous la sanction Pro All Star Series (PASS), les compétiteurs ne peuvent pratiquer à moins d’une semaine de l’épreuve. Plusieurs en ont profité pour venir tourner quelques tours pour se familiariser avec le circuit et pour développer des « setups » de course et de qualification.

Including ACT driver Joey Polewarczyk. The Canadians Quebec will be represented by Patrick Laperle, Martin Latulippe, Kevin Roberge and Quebec born Mario Gosselin (he now resides in the USA). DJ Shaw, an american, driving for Precision JLM of Laval, Quebec (Canada) under the ownership of J. & R. Moglioli will also be racing. Hauling from the maritimes are John Flemming, Matt Matheson, Greg Proude and the multi-time Champion Lonnie Sommerville. Even one racer, Brian Levant, coming from as far as Calgary, Alberta. Sanctioning body Since the race will be sanctioned by Pro All Star Series (PASS), drivers wanting to practice must do so before a week from the event. Many took advantage and turned laps at the facility to familiarize themselves and dial-in setups for both qualifying and the feature race.

Deux gagnants de last chance. Jusqu’à 15 positions seront réservées pour tout pilote PASS nord ou sud ayant participé à 100% des épreuves du calendrier 2010 et avoir terminé dans le top 15. La course et la bourse La distance de 300 tours sera divisée en trois segments, chacune des pauses de 5 minutes pour permettre le remplacement des pneus et des ajustements aux bolides. En plus des $75000 pour la victoire, chaque tour mené rapportera au meneur $100 ($30000) et un boni de $25000 additionnel sera décerné au vainqueur s’il a été un participant PASS 100% en 2010. The starting grid The first 15 spots will be determined using time trials. Positions 16 to 30 via qualifying races. Two Last chance winners. And up to 15 spots for any PASS North or South driver having competed in 100% of either schedules and finishing in the top 15 in ranks. The race and the purse The 300 laps event will be split in three segments separated by a 5 minutes pause to allow for tire change and adjustments. In addition to the $75000 for the win, $100 will go to the leader of each lap ($30000) and a bonus of $25000 will be awarded if the winner is a full time (100%) PASS 2010 participant. A number of contingency sponsors are also adding to the impressive pot. Best of luck to all the competitors, especially those who call the province of Quebec home.

New Smyrna Beach, Fla – La septième soirée de compétition dans le cadre des World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing en sera une à oublier pour les deux québécois… tandis que deux ontariens terminent 1 et 2 en Crate / Late Models.   L’ontarien Shaun McWhirter qui est parti de la position de tête aura mené de fil en fil. Cole Powell a terminé deuxième et Nathan Russell troisième.

New Smyrna Beach, Fla – Night seven in the World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing is one to be forgotten by the two Quebec competitors... meanwhile a couple Ontario drivers celebrate with a 1-2 finish in the Crate / Late Model ranks.   Shaun McWhirter who started on the pole led flag to flag.  He was followed across the line by fellow Ontario driver Cole Powell and Nathan Russell finished third.

 

Martin Lautilippe qui partait deuxième dans la finale de 25 tours a bien fait pour la première moitié de l’épreuve demeurant en deuxième place.  Cependant la tenue de route de la voiture #84 s’est dégradée et Latulippe a rétrogradé jusqu’au neuvième rang.   Du côté de Kevin Roberge, qui partait sixième, ce ne fut guère mieux, il n’a jamais montré la puissance qu’il avait lors des autres épreuves.  Roberge a terminé sixième.

Martin Latulippe started on the outside of row ran very well for the first half of the 25 lap feature, but his handling went away for the second half and fell back in the in the field finishing a disappointing ninth place.   Kevin Roberge, who was sixth on the starting grid, didn’t fare much better.  He could not move up in the field and show that same strength he did on previous nights and finished sixth.

 

Une heure après que le tech soit fermé, les deux québécois demeuraient les deux seules équipes toujours à la piste.   Du côté de Roberge le champion ARCA et pilote de camionnette Mario Gosselin s’affairait du côté de la suspension avant pour y trouver un bris ou un désalignement.   Du côté de Latulippe ont a trouvé un problème d’attache de barre antiroulis et ont remplaçait les ressorts de valve de moteur.   Latulippe qui menait au classement par 38 points avant l’épreuve sur Roberge aura vu son avance fondre à 24 points.    Le classement est donc : Latullipe 230 pts, Roberge 206pts, Jerick Johnson 202 pts, Zach Germain 154pts, Nathan Russell 150 pts.

One hour after tech was closed the two Quebec teams were the only ones left in the pits.   In the Roberge camp ARCA Champ and Truck Driver Mario Gosselin was checking out the front end of the car for a possible break or misalignment.   Meanwhile a couple hundread feet further Latulippe found a problem with the sway bar that was binding the suspension and work to replace valve spring had just begun.   Latulippe who came in as the points leader by 38 points over Roberge saw his lead reduced to only 24 points.   The leaderboard after the event is now: Latullipe 230 pts, Roberge 206pts, Jerick Johnson 202 pts, Zach Germain 154pts, Nathan Russell 150 pts.

Kevin Roberge dans le cercle du vainqueur

New Smyrna Beach, Fla - Il aura fallu attendre la sixième soirée des 45e World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing de 2011 pour avoir un pilote québécois dans le cercle des vainqueurs. Kevin Roberge a remporté la finale de 25 tours après être parti de la 4e place sur la grille. Il a été suivi à l’arrivée de Jerick Johnson et de Nathan Russell. Martin Latulippe a terminé quant à lui a rallié le fil d’arrivé en cinquième place juste derrière John Nutley.

New Smyrna Beach, Fla – We had to wait for the sixth night of competition in the 2011 World Series of Asphalt Stock Car to see a Quebec driver in victory lane. Kevin Roberge won the 25 laps feature after starting from the fourth starting position. He was followed across the line by Jerick Johnson and Nathan Russell. Martin Latulippe would finish fifth behind John Nutley.

En début d’épreuve, lors de la 2e relance, Kevin Roberge est venu bien proche d’échapper sa voiture et de l’envoyer dans le mur. « Mes pneus ne devaient pas être bien nettoyés et quand j’ai embarqué sur l’accélérateur l’arrière c’est dérobée. L’arrière valsait tout le long du droit et j’ai faissé dans le 81 de [Andrew] Gressel et je m’en excuse. Si il y avait eu un accident ce serait de ma faute » indiquait Roberge. Après 2 tours de complétés, à la relance, les voitures de Dakota Stephens et de Mike Mazzagatti se sont touchés et ont parti en dérapage devant le peloton débutant un carambolage monstre qui aura vu la voiture de Gus Dean se retrouver en bien fâcheuse position sur le côté.

Early in the race, at the second restart, Kevin Roberge came very close of wrecking when he momentarily lost control of his car. “I must not of cleaned my tires well and when I stomped the gas the rear end started to slip all along the front stretch. I hit the 81 of [Andrew] Gressel several times and I am sorry for that. Had there been an accident it would have been totally my fault” said Roberge. After 2 laps in the event, after a restart, the cars of Dakota Stephens and Mike Mazzagatti touched and were sent into a slide just in front of the field starting a huge pile up that resulted in Gus Dean’s automobile sitting on its side against the turn two wall.

Après de longues minutes pour dégagé Gus Dean, à la relance, Kevin Roberge et Martin Latulippe étaient côte à côte sur la première ligne. Roberge avec la trajectoire extérieur aura eu le dessus sur Latulippe et c’est installé en tête, une position qu’il gardera jusqu’à la fin. « On avait une très bonne voiture. J’étais nerveux après l’incident entre Stephens et Mazzagatti car je ne savais pas si l’entrée d’air était bouchée. Finalement c’étais plus de peur que de mal. Je suis vraiment content de cette victoire. Car la précédente remonte du temps des sportsmans. Nous venons de prendre une sérieuse option sur la deuxième place derrière Martin [Latulippe] » déclara Kevin Roberge. « Ont avait une voiture pour se battre, mais j’ai choisit de jouer safe quand j’ai vu Russell et Johnson forcer. Nos objectifs ont bien entendu changé et ont vise le championnat. Ont aimerait tout de même remporter une épreuve en croisant le fil d’arrivé en premier » conclua Martin Latulippe. Latulippe mène le classement avec 222 points devant Roberge et ses 186 points. Johnson 174 points, Zach Germain 142 points et Austin Kirkpatrick 138 points complètent le top 5 du championnat. After several minutes to remove Gus Dean’s car, for the restart both Quebec drivers Kevin Roberge and Martin Latulippe were side by side. Roberge used the advantage of the outside line to pull in front of Latulippe, a position he would not give up for the reminder of the event. “We had a great car. I was nervous after the incident between Stephens and Mazzagatti, I didn’t know if the air dam was blocked or not. Finally it was more scare than harm. I am very happy with this win. As the one before goes back to my sportsman days. We just consolidated our second position in the championship behind Martin [Latulippe] which is very good news” said Kevin Roberge. “We had a car to fight for position, but I chose to play it safe when I saw Russell and Johnson put on the pressure. Our objectives have of course changed and we now have our sights set on winning the championship. Meanwhile I would still like to cross the stripe in first place” concluded Martin Latulippe. Latulippe continues to lead the championship with his 222 points ahead of Roberge with 186 points. Johnson 174 points, Zach Germain 142 points and Austin Kirkpatrick 138 points complete the top five in the rankings. New Smyrna Beach, FLA - La cinquième soirée de compétition à New Smyrna Speedway mettait en vedette les Tour Type Modifieds avec un 30 tours et en marge les Crate / Late Models.

 

L'américain Jerick Johnson a pris le départ de la position de commande mais a vite été dépassé par Cole Powell de Mt Brydges, Ontario.   Powell a maintenu le cap et a rapidement creusé l'écart avec les autres.  Malgré 7 relances, aucun des autres pilotes en avait pour Powell qui a croisé le fil le premier en piste, mais l'œil vigilant de l'inspecteur technique Ricky Brooks a confirmé ce que plusieurs doutaient sont moteur était non conforme.   Le québécois Martin Latulippe qui s'était élancé de la deuxième ligne en 4e position a roulé dans le top 3 toute la course, même qu'il aura passé plus de temps en deuxième position.  Avec la disqualification de Powell il est crédité avec la victoire.  Sa troisième en quatre soir de compétition pour les Crate / Late Models.   Kevin Roberge qui partait en dixième place n'a pu avancer dans le peloton en première moitié d'épreuve de 25 tours.  Il  a cependant capitalisé sur un important carambolage qu'il là fait remonter au 7e rang.   Jerick Johnson qui était deuxième au classement derrière Latulippe a terminé quatrième dans la finale, lui non plus n'a pas passé l'inspection technique.  Avec cette disqualification, il dégringolera au classement.   Une autre victime d'accident ce soir est Jared Marks qui était troisième au classement avant l'épreuve.  Il marquera seulement 4 points.   Avec les accidents et les disqualifications Latulippe consolide sont avance au sommet du classement.  Officieusement Latulippe a maintenant 198 points,  Keving Roberge passerait  au deuxième rang avec 146 points, Johnson au troisième rang avec 138 points, quatrième Kirkpatrick avec 134 points et Jared Marks avec 110 points.   Si la cédule prévoit des courses ce soir, un 50 tour modifié et entre autre un 25 tours Crate / Late Models il pleut présentement.  Nous ferons tout de même une diffusion à compter de 19h pour vous tenir au courant.  Vous pouvez suivre à : http://roy-motorsports.com/Roy_Motorsports_-_VIDEO.html

2011 World Series of Asphalt - night 2

New Smyrna Beach, Fla – Une deuxième journée dans les World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing tout aussi payante pour les pilotes Roberge et Latulippe en classe Crate / Late Models.

New Smyrna Beach, Fla – The second night of competition in the Crate / Late Models that are part of the World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing was as good as the previous one for Quebec drivers Kevin Roberge and Martin Latulippe.

Si hier Latulippe avait obtenu les honneurs ultime hier, une victoire, ce soir Roberge aura terminé au 2e range de la finale de 25 tours. Latulippe aura tout de même terminé quatrième du groupe. Nu été du fait que cela aura pris 20+ minutes pour passer du 1er au 2e tour, les spectateurs en auront eu pour leur argent avec les différentes batailles. Roberge qui partait prenait le départ en 5e place a remonté jusqu’à la 2e place. Mais en avait simplement pas assez pour rejoindre Austin Kirkpatrick et John Nutley et a croisé le fil en 3e place. Lors de vérification technique Nutley a été disqualifié pour des ressorts de valve non conforme. De ce fait Roberge passe au 2e rang et Latulippe au quatrième rang. L’équipe de Kevin étaient folle de joie… et attendaient avec impatience les résultats de l’inspection technique de Kirkpatrick… rêvant même à une disqualification. Mais ce ne fut pas le cas. Mario Roberge (le père) et Dany Lagacé étaient tout sourire avec le classement du jeune de Lévis, même s’il avait eu une troisième place. Latulippe qui suivaient Roberge a eu la frousse lors du premier départ. Le meneur Jared Marks a fait un mauvais départ et les voitures se sont embouti avant la ligne départ / arrivée. Mais Latulippe a tamponé Roberge et là envoyé en tête à queue. Une chance… aucun tour de complété le groupe – incluant Roberge – s’élancera d’après l’ordre original. Par la suite… 20 minutes à faire 1 tour. Faux départ, problème de repositionnement, accrochage… même le camion de tête en a arraché dans la séquence. Par la suite le déroulement c’est gâté pour Latulippe qui a manqué un départ et a vu quelques compétiteurs le dépasser. Bilan positif pour les deux pilotes. Moins bon pour Brandon Watson qui n’aura pu faire mieux qu’une 11e place (10e après la DSQ de Nutley) après s’être élancé en fond de grille.

If yesterday Latulippe was credited with the top honours, a win, tonight Roberge is credidted with second place in the 25 laps feature. Latulippe was credited with fourth. If it wasn’t for the fact that it took 20+ minutes to get to lap two on the scoreboard, fans got their money’s worth with on track action. Roberge who took the green flag in 5th place climbed positions up to second. Unfortunately he just didn’t have enough for Austin Kirkpatrick (winner) and John Nutley and crossed the stripe in third place. Post race inspection revealed that Nutley was running out of spec valve springs and was disqualified for it. Because of this Roberge gets second place and Latulippe fourth place. Kevin’s team was going nuts when they found out... anxiously waiting for Kirkpatrick’s tech result... even going so far as dreaming for as DSQ on the winenr. But it wasn’t the case. Mario Roberge (father) and Dany Lagacé were all smiles with the youngster’s results, even if it would have been a third place finish. Latulippe who started behind Roberge got a scare on the initial start. Then pole sitter Jared Marks had a bad start and the cars bumped each other behind him before getting to the start / finish line. At that time Latulippe got into Roberge sending him in a sping. Thank god for the fact that no laps were in the books and everyone reclaimed their starting positions as it was a complete restart. Then it got bad. Over 20 minutes to get over the 1 lap complete mark. False starts, line up issues, crashes.... even the pace trucks had a hard time in the sequence. At one point Latulippe had a bad start and saw a couple competitors go by him. Positive report card for the two drivers. Unfortunately not has good for Brandon Watson who couldn’t bring home better than 11th place (10 after Nutley’s DSQ) after starting deep in the field.

Brandon Watson comments after the race, about leading and being wrecked.

Les classes IMCA/Florida Modified et Super Late ont été ponctuées de nombreux accidents et même quelques drapeaux rouge ce qui a fait que la soirée a perdurée… et même que la classe SK a vue ses tours coupé de moitié (de 30 à 15). Martin Latulipe a signé une victoire et Kevin Roberge une troisième place dans la classe Crate / Late Model. Latulippe qui s’étais élancé de la position de tête après que les 5 premiers soient disqualifié à la suite des time trials et de l’inversion roulait bien mais n’était pas assez rapide pour Dalton Zehr. Il a donc vu Zehr lui prendre la position de tête. « Nous n’avions pas la bonne gear. La voiture était soudée, mais le cut off embarquait au flagman » déclara Latulippe. Après l’inspection ont apprendra que Zehr utilisait des ressorts de valve non conforme et fut disqualifié. En plus de Zehr, les ontariens Brandon Watson et Cole Powell aussi ont passé devant Latulippe. Les deux ont même pris les commandes de l’épreuve. Alors qu’ils s’amenait pour le quadrillé à la sortie de la 4, Powell a envoyé Watson en tête-à-queue provoquant tout un carmbolage. Zehr, Latulippe, Austin Kirkpatrick, Kevin Roberge et Jerick Johnson ont croisé le fil d’arrivé dans l’ordre. Même que Kirkpatrick a croisé le fil de reculons. Le grand opportuniste fut Roberge. Avec 1 tour à faire il était 8e. Dans l’incident Watson (bris) / Powell (pénalité) l’autre ontarien Shawn McWhirter n’a pu éviter la voiture de Watson et a terminé la course en percutant son confrère de l’ontario. In the IMCA/Florida Modified and Super Late classes there was so many cautions and even a couple red flags that made the night drag on... officials even cut the sk feature from 30 to 15 lasp. Vallée Jonction’s Martin Latulippe won and Lévis’ Kevin Roberge finished 3rd in the Crate / Late Model ranks. Latulippe who started on the pole after some disqualification in post time trial and due to the inversion ran well but wasn’t fast enough to hold back Dalton Zehr and conceded the top spot over. “We just didn’t have the right gear. The car was welded to the track but the cut off would kick in at the flagman” said Latulippe. Following post race inspection we would lean that Zehr was using illegal valve springs and was disqualified. In addition to Zehr, Ontario drivers Brandon Watson and Cole Powell also powered around Latulippe. They even took over the lead of the race. With only a few feet remaining, coming out of turn four, Powell dumped Watson sending him in a spin at the front of the field. Zehr, Latulippe, Austin Kirkpatrick, Kevin Roberge and Jerick Johnson cross the stat/finish line in that order. Even Kirkpatrick did so going backwards as a spun due to the incident. The winner from that ordeal was Roberge. Eight with one lap to go he was credited with fourth place when Watson was taken out, Powell diqualified for rough driving, the other Ontario driver Shawn McWhirter was also involved in the incident and dropped to the back of the field as he collected Watson car sitting across the track.
