ICAR RESULTS: Louis-Philippe Dumoulin termine quatrième à Mirabel

Communiqué pour publication immédiate   Louis-Philippe Dumoulin termine quatrième à Mirabel Bataille de coqs entre les coéquipiers Tagliani et Ranger au Grand Prix ICAR de Mirabel   Mirabel, Québec, le 5 juin 2011 - Alex Tagliani a mené le plus grand nombre de tours, Andrew Ranger a dépassé le plus grand nombre de rivaux, mais ni l'un, ni l'autre n'était présent sur le podium de la deuxième étape du calendrier 2011 de la série NASCAR de Canadian Tire disputée dimanche dans le cadre du Grand Prix ICAR de Mirabel. S'élançant de la position de tête d'une épreuve prévue pour 30 tours, mais qui s'est étirée à 33, Tagliani s'est échangé le commandement de l'épreuve à quatre reprises avec l'Ontarien JR Fitzpatrick jusqu'à ce dernier soit victime d'une crevaison lente en fin de course. Tagliani semblait voguer vers la victoire, mais Ranger arrivait à la vitesse grand V.

 

Parti en fond de grille parce qu'il participait à l'épreuve ARCA disputée au Chicagoland Speedway où il a terminé cinquième, Ranger s'est élancé le couteau entre les dents. Au premier tour, il avait doublé huit voitures, et quatre le tour suivant. Lentement, bousculant un peu sur son passage, il s'est retrouvé deuxième au 26e tour. Puis, au 28e passage, il a heurté l'arrière de la Dodge Avenger de son coéquipier Tag à la sortie du coin 11, et c'en était fait pour le pilote de Lachenaie qui avait mené 24 des 27 premiers tours. Neutralisation, et la course allait en prolongation. Installé en tête, Ranger allait mener du 28e au 33e tour pour accepter le drapeau à damier, mais les officiels ont décidé de pénaliser le pilote de Roxton Pond pour avoir été trop agressif envers un compétiteur. Même s'il a été le premier à recevoir le damier, il a été classé en 21e position par NASCAR. L'Ontarien Robin Buck allait hériter de la victoire, Scott Steckly du deuxième rang pour accentuer son avance au classement - 360 points contre  330 pour Don Thompson Jr, qui a terminé troisième. Témoin privilégié de l'incident entre Tagliani et Ranger, Buck, qui occupait alors le troisième rang au moment de la poussette de Ranger, a déclaré qu'il se doutait que quelque chose allait se produire entre les deux protagonistes. De son point de vue, ce n'était qu'un incident de course, car Tagliani était un peu de travers à la sortie de ce virage lorsque Ranger l'a heurté. L'autre histoire de la journée appartient à Louis-Philippe Dumoulin qui a terminé quatrième. Toujours affublé du titre de pilote recrue dans cette série, le Trifluvien s'était élancé du neuvième rang, et il s'est surtout tenu loin des situations hasardeuses. Lentement mais sûrement, il a remonté le peloton pour se trouver dans le carré d'as en fin de course. Quant à Tagliani, il a terminé au huitième rang après avoir remonté 12 positions lors des six derniers tours de la course. Élie Arseneau, qui en était à son baptême en série NASCAR, a terminé au 12e rang sur le tour du vainqueur. Place aux courses de soutien La course du Championnat Castrol de Touring Car Canadien a été remportée par l'Ontarien Bob Attrell devant le Montréalais Nick Wittmer. Attrell a mené tous les tours de la course, et il n'a pas vraiment été inquiété par Wittmer, même si la course a été neutralisée à quelques tours de la fin, ce qui a regroupé le peloton. Philip Fayer de Montréal a terminé troisième dans la catégorie Super. Dans la catégorie Touring, les Québécois Michel Sallenbach de Roxton Pond et Alain Lauzière de Vaudreuil ont de nouveau réussi le doublé pour l'équipe Octane Motorsport. Dans le Challenge Porsche Coupe IMSA Canada, Martin Harvey de Berthierville a inscrit sa première victoire de la saison, mettant un terme à la séquence de trois victoires consécutives de l'Ontarien Perry Bortolotti. Shaun McKaigue a terminé deuxième suivi de Bruce Gregory. Les pilotes du Championnat Super Production Challenge ont de nouveau offert aux spectateurs tout un spectacle alors qu'Yves Bédard a franchi l'arrivée avec 30 centièmes de seconde devant le duo Nick et Karl Wittmer, vainqueurs de la manche de samedi. Benjamin Distaulo et Simon Dion-Viens sont montés sur la troisième marche du podium. Seulement six secondes séparaient la troisième position de la dixième au terme des 23 tours de la course. Michel Legrand a de nouveau remporté la victoire dans la catégorie GT1 du championnat du Québec GT Sprint, devançant Jean-Luc Bergeron et Charles Hammer au terme des 16 tours de la course. Dans la Série Cup Lite, Georges Morissette a inscrit un deuxième triomphe devant P-A Manseau. ANDREW RANGER FINISHES 7th IN K&N WEST EVENT

For immediate release NDS – 2010-02-24 - 002   Phoenix, AZ — February 25, 2011 — On Thursday, two-time NASCAR Canadian Tire Series Champion Andrew Ranger scored a seventh place finish in the NASCAR K&N West Series event held at Phoenix International Raceway in Avondale, Arizona just outside Phoenix.

 

Ranger, the driver of the No. 35 Waste Management Recycling NDS Motorsports, lined up in 4th place for the 3 Amigos Organic Blanco 100 after setting second fastest time in practice.  “We were quick right off the truck and improved each time we went out in practice” commented Ranger.   The Roxton Pond, Quebec native defended his fourth place position until the first caution, on lap 18, when as per the team’s game plan; he drove the No. 35 Waste Management Recycling NDS Motorsports car down pit road for refueling.    By lap 36, Ranger had worked his way back to fifth place and continued his march to the front.  He climbed as high as second place and even challenged for the lead.  On the final restart, with 7 laps to go, Ranger then in third place paid the price for that late race caution and having elected not to get tires.  He held on to a seventh place finish just outside the No. 35 Waste Management Recycling NDS Motorsports’ goal of a top 5 finish.   “The team and I decided to pit early and do gas only.  I still think it was the right thing to do, but the 8 cautions in the race certainly did not play in our favor.  The last caution with 7 laps to go sealed our faith.  We had to battle against others with 25 laps older tires” added Ranger.   Andrew Ranger will return behind the wheel of the No. 35 Waste Management Recycling NDS Motorsports race car on April 28, when the NASCAR K&N East Series visits Richmond International Speedway.   ###   Source : NDS Motorsports             Steve Hibbard / Marc Patrick Roy

 

 

NDS MOTORSPORTS PR - ANDREW RANGER FINISHES 22ND IN ALL-STAR EVENT

For immediate release NDS – 2010-01-29 - 001   IRWINDALE, CA — January 29, 2011 — Andew Ranger overcame a cancelled flight due to a snow storm, slept in an airport and survived 11 cautions to finish in 22nd place in the eighth running of the NASCAR Toyota All-Star Showdown, which brings together the top racers from across North America and has grown into the "Daytona 500 of short-track racing".

 

Ranger, the driver of the No. 35 Waste Management Recycling NDS Motorsports, lined up in 8th place for Saturday night's All-Star event after turning the eight fastest lap of all in time trials the night before.  Forty-six competitors, representing five countries, attempted to qualify for one of the forty starting positions in the main event.   The 225 lap NASCAR K&N Pro Series All-Star race was broken up into three segments.  After each one, crews were given 10 minutes to service the car before returning to the track in the same order they completed the previous one.   In the first segment of 102 laps, the Roxton Pond, Quebec native climbed as high as fifth place in the standings before fading back in the field when the car's handling changed.  "We qualified the race car under very hot conditions.  We adjusted the car's setup for the night time race, at first we were very competitive, we were battling in the top 10, but it didn't stick.  We must of went too far and I just could no longer drive the car, it wouldn't turn" said Ranger.  He finished the segment in 26th position.   In the second segment, from laps 103 to 198, Ranger still had his hands full behind the No. 35 Waste Management Recycling car steering wheel.  "During the competition yellow, we went too far.  We went from a tight car to a very loose car.  Already with 1 lap down, I lost two additional laps in the pits under green to fix the car's setup.  It went much better from that point on".   Ranger started the third segment and last 27 laps dash in the 27th starting position and took advantage of a much better handling car to improve his finish at the end.  He would cross the finish line in 22nd position three laps down to the leader.   Participating in his third Toyota All-Star Showdown, Ranger who was involved in an accident in 2007 and finishing 15th in 2010, he and the No. 35 Waste Management Recycling NDS Motorsports crew came to Irwindale, CA with very high expectations.  "Obviously, it's disappointing.  Everyone worked hard.  We tested before coming here and we had high hopes.  Missing the setup cost us a top five finish" added Ranger.    Instead of the win, the Vermont based team will return home with very important information about racing in the Southwest's temperature.  Instrumental information for the next race which will take place at Phoenix International Raceway on February 24th when they participate in the NASCAR K&N Pro West Series event.   ###   Source : NDS Motorsports             Steve Hibbard / Marc Patrick Roy
