A UFO in the sky at night above Loch Tamnavay.

On arrival at the head of Loch Tamnavay several of us set off for a shakedown paddle on the loch.

Ian quickly entered full smug mode, as he had been allocated Gordon's new Valley Etain. It will be worthwhile following Ian's excellent blog of our trip. Then you will be able to enjoy our voyages in full St Kilda Stereovision (tm)!

Although it was 21:45 hours, the mid summer sun was still shining

Little Cumbrae sunset.

We met at Portencross at 730pm......and formulated a quick plan to paddle round Little Cumbrae Island.
 We set the controls...

 ...the sun.

 As we crossed to Gull Point it slowly sank in the west, turning from orange to red.

On our return, our way was lit by the glow of Hunterston nuclear power station. Fortunately Harvey was with us and as he works there, we assumed

North of Bracken Bay we enjoyed a bracing paddle in the dying minutes of the day.Behind us the sun had set behind the Heads of Ayr.As we came into the shelter of the headland, the conditions moderated.A final blaze and the sun was gone.We paddled on into the darkness of a mid winter's night.

The end of a perfect day, in Loch Etive.

We drifted slowly, treasuring the moment and watching the sunset until the last red ember had cooled and there were only ash grey clouds on the western horizon.Turning to the east again, we paddled deep into the confines of the "fjord like" Loch Etive.The mountains and the darkness gradually hemmed us in until we were paddling in pitch darkness. A compass bearing took us back safely to the pier
