PASS North double header up next

Beech Ridge, Lee USA host the PASS traveling road show on Saturday,Tuesday

Naples ME (7/6) The Pro All Stars Series (PASS) North schedule always heats up in July, and this week's double dose of Super Late Model racing is a must see for fans of the fastest full fender race cars in the east.

Beech Ridge Motor Speedway in Scarborough Maine anchors the northern series and both the Super Late Models and Mods will be back on track at the Ridge this Saturday July 9 for the Southern Maine Motors.com 150.

Beech Ridge always brings out a packed field and the entry list already has a number of new or returning entries. Kellyyy Moore, Scott Mulkern, Bill Penfold, Ricky Morse, JT Thurlow and DJ Shaw will be racing with PASS, challenging the regulars for Beech Ridge supremacy. All the PASS North point contenders are expected to be in action, including a number of Beech Ridge Pro Series regulars.. Beech Ridge weekly racer Bill Rodgers stole the touring racer's thunder in the 2010 edition of this event, winning one for the home team.

The PASS Mod squad will be looking to end Andy Shaw's three race 2011 win streak; The Mods will go 40 laps at the Scarborough oval and their segment of the show is always exciting. Racing gets the green at 6:00 PM. The Beech Ridge Sport Series, Wildcat and Road Runner divisions complete the card.

The turn around for both divisions will be a quick one as they will all be back on track Tuesday July 12 for their annual trip to Lee USA Speedway. The third annual addition of the PASS Bastille 200 features all three PASS touring series, and the home track heroes always look forward challenging the touring PASS Sportsman drivers.

Mike Rowe and Johnny Clark battled it out in the 2010 edition of the PASS Bastille 200 with Rowe prevailing in the closing laps to win one of the season's most exciting races.

It's a great night of racing at Red and Judy MacDonald s beautiful Route 125 facility. Qualifying rounds kick off at 7:00 PM.

Ben Rowe's victory at Canaan Fair Speedway allowed the Turner Maine speed merchant to open up a twelve point gap over defending champion Johnny Clark, but its not a comfortable margin by any means. The month of July will go a long way to deciding the 2011 title, and there's a lot of great racing ahead for racers and fans alike.

WHAT THEY'RE SAYING

JOEY DOIRON, Driver of the No. 73 JBJ Machine/Dale Shaw Race Cars Chevrolet, On his chances at Beech Ridge this weekend: “It's Beech Ridge, so I'm always gald to go there. Every time we've been there with PASS, we feel like we've been a winning car through practice and even for most of the race. Something always seems to happen to us.

Hopefully, the luck has to turn around after (The Race at North Wilkesboro). To turn it around with a win would be awesome, or even a Top-5 finish. I'd be more than happy to start the season the way I did last year.”

On the racing at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway: “You just can't abuse your stuff too early. I really think the key the last couple of years has been whoever can ride around and stay out of trouble and then be able to paint the (inside) line in the last 50 laps of the race. It doesn't matter if you're a half-second faster than everybody else, if you can't pass on the bottom at the end when everybody starts sliding up to the top of the track, you're not going to be very good.

The track is its own animal. A lot of people consider it like Oxford, but I always think we have a chance to win at Beech Ridge, and at Oxford, usually I can't get out of my own way. So I don't know what it is there.”

On his goals for his sophomore season: “I definitely think we can win a race this year. We just need some luck. We put ourselves in position to do it a couple of times last year it seemed, but we just couldn't seem to catch a break when we needed it.

If we can get a win, we can build on that. Hopefully, then we'll pick up another one after that. I think if we can run competitively at the tracks where we think we can, the points will take care of themselves.”

UP NEXT

The PASS North Series heads to the second race of the season on the smallest track, the PASS 150 at the quarter-mile Star Speedway in Epping, N.H., on Saturday, May 14... Joey Doiron has never competed in a Super Late Model at Star Speedway, but he post a Top-10 finish with a 9th-place run at the high-banked quarter-mile of White Mountain Motorsports Park last season.

Pro All Stars Series news - PASS 400 weekend - Sautrday race report

Vaughn, Dow and Beaulieu Claim Saturday PASS 400 Weekend wins

Scarborough ME (9/11) Day three of PASS 400 weekend was highlighted by qualifying for all three PASS North touring divisions plus features for the Legends, Road Runners and Wildcats.

144 race cars rolled through the Beech Ridge Motor Speedway back gate and from the first green to the final checker the fans in the stands witnessed short track racing at its finest.

Tom Scully Jr., Joey Doiron, David Oliver and PASS Super Late Model point leader Johnny Clark all claimed their qualifiers.  Super Late Model consolation rounds went to PASS National Series point leader Preston Peltier and 2009 PASS North Rookie of the Year Nick Ribbe. Sunday’s Last Chance race will determine the final qualifiers for the 300 lap, $10,000 to win PASS 300.

Heat race wins for Sunday’s PASS Sportsman 100 went to Grant Aither, Jay Sands and Craig Smith Sumner Sessions and John Brill came out on top of the PASS Mod heats. The Mods will run a 50 lap feature Sunday and a new PASS Mod Champion will be crowned.

With PASS qualifying complete it was feature time for the Road Runners and the field made quick work of their show with just one lap nineteen caution to mar the 25 lapper. Matt Dow captured the win over Shawn Brackett, David Turner, Tasha Dyer and Donnie Dinsmore.

A twenty two car Legends field ran a 50 lap Nationals qualifier and when the dust cleared it was Evan Beaulieu in victory lane.

Seventy five laps for the Wildcats wrapped up the day’s racing with Mike Short leading the thirty two car field to the green. Short jumped out front from the pole but a miscue sent him back through the field and Nate Leavitt took over the point. Leavitt, Keith Stewart and David Vaughn broke away from the pack at the halfway mark and the trio ran nose to tail until ten to go when Stewart experienced troubles and Vaughn went on by for second.  The caution flew with two circuits remaining, setting up a green-white-checker with Leavitt on the inside and Vaughn on the high side. The pair raced side by side to the white flag, but Vaughn snatched the top spot from Leavitt coming off turn two to claim the win. Leavitt, Steve Benicasa, Louie Anderson and Matt Dow came home second through tenth.

On Sunday the feature racing goes green at 12:15 PM sharp with  the PASS North super late model  last chance qualifier, qualifying and a 50 lap feature for the North East Mini Stock Tour, 100 laps for the PASS Sportsman and the big one, the sixth annual PASS 300.
