First of all, you must look around and make a list of what all items you have that you would like to reuse. If most of the furniture in your home is in a sturdy condition, do not replace them. Just get the polishing done and, if possible, get them upholstered again. You can add new pillows, curtains, paint, wallpaper, pictures, plants, scarves or new wall hangings to alter the appearance of the room. Throw rugs can improve a rooms appearance as well. Go with contrasting colors for effect. Before making any alterations, consider the look that you want to give to the room whether it is a western posh look with silver, black and white shades or a traditional aesthetic look with more of bronze and copper shades. One can find many beautiful and unique items during garage sales which are surprisingly very inexpensive such as glass jars, bottles, flower vases, pillows, baskets, candle stands, pots, mirrors, clocks, picture frames, old tin or wooden toys or collectables, waxed fruits, paper weights, stuffed animals, dolls, wall hangings, lamps and lamp shades. Whether you believe it or not, all of these items can be used to decorate a home in a uniquely elegant and beautiful manner.Plants are a lot of freshness, elegance and beauty to any room irrespective of whether they are live plants or silk plants. One can use old baskets, vases or decorative boxes as plant holders. Hanging plants and flowers make beautiful additions to any room or terrace.

ACT PR : ACT Looks for 9th Different Winner at Lee Opener

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE                                   ACT-041611-20

Waterbury, VT – The American Canadian Tour will look for its ninth different Lee USA Speedway winner in this Sunday’s (April 17) 2011 New Hampshire Governor’s Cup 150 season opener. No driver has been able to repeat in the eight events held at the 3/8ths mile speedway since 2003.

Three of the previous eight winners will attempt to change that fact on Sunday, as seven-time ACT Champion Jean-Paul Cyr of Milton, VT (2005), ACT’s hottest driver at the end of 2010 Joey Polewarczyk, Jr. from Hudson, NH (2008) and defending NH Governor’s Cup winner Miles Chipman from Epping, NH (2010) have all filed entries. But that leaves over 40 other drivers aiming at their first career ACT win at Lee.

Seven-time and defending ACT Tour Champion Brian Hoar (Williston, VT) is among them. He has only had two career starts at Lee but has finished inside the top ten both times with a 9th in 2009 and a 3rd last season. A win Sunday would make Lee his 12th different track with an ACT victory.

Two veteran ACT competitors will attempt to break into victory lane and earn their first career top fives at the speedway. Milton, VT’s Brent Dragon and Shelburne, VT’s Jamie Fisher are the only two drivers to start all eight events at Lee, but neither has cracked the top five.

Fellow veterans Mark Lamberton of Mooer’s Forks, NY and Joey Laquerre of East Montpelier, VT are among only 10 drivers with multiple top fives in ACT Lee competition. Lamberton earned back to back top fives in 2005 and 2006 including a podium finish. Laquerre picked up his second 5th place effort in the 2010 NH Gov. Cup.

Wayne Helliwell, Jr. of Dover, NH leads the way for former Lee regulars as the multi-time track champion. Helliwell claimed nine feature wins at Lee in 2010 and earned a career best 6th in the ACT visit. He’ll be closely followed by Rochester, NH’s Jeffrey Labrecque, Jr. who turned a lot of heads with his own career best ACT, finish as the NH Governor’s Cup runner-up in 2010.

Several drivers from the Série Castrol Edge will make their trip across the border for the season opener. 2010 Série Castrol Edge Champion Karl Allard of St-Felicien, Quebec will attempt to make his first start at the speedway. He will be joined by fellow Castrol Edge Champion (2006, 2009) Donald Theetge of Quebec City, QC, who has two career ACT starts at Lee. Also making the trek south are Quebecers Yvon “The Bullet” Bedard of St-Nicolas and Princeville’s Jimmy Cormier.

The 2011 ACT Tour season is set to kick off this Sunday, April 17 with the New Hampshire Governor’s Cup 150 at Lee (NH) USA Speedway. General admission gates will open at 10:00am with post time at 1:00pm.

Maryeve Dufault; Tony Marks Racing Qualify Career-Best Third At Talladega

“Rookie Team; Driver Continue To Show Strength At Superspeedway”

TALLADEGA, Ala. (April 14, 2011) - - Maryeve Dufault qualified a career-best third in only her second ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards attempt at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway Thursday afternoon lining up her No. 12 VR-12 / Dodge Motorsports / Victory Water Dodge Charger on the inside of row number two for tomorrow’s 3 Amigos 250.

Dufault, the Sorel, Quebec native has been very impressive in her Talladega debut. Her rookie Tony Marks Racing (TMR) team showed early signs of strength in pre-race testing last month before rocketing herself to third on the practice charts earlier today.

For a while, Dufault’s lap of 52.204 seconds at 183.434 miles per hour set the rookie on the outside of row number one before youngest Kyle Fowler knocked the Redondo Beach, California native down to third overall.

In her first career ARCA Racing Series start at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway in February, Dufault qualified 24th.

“Wow, this is great,” Dufault said with a huge smile. “I cannot thank VR-12, Dodge, Victory Water, Tony Marks and Tony Marks Racing for this great opportunity and with a really fast race car. I know we were going for the pole, but I’ll take third and we’ll look forward to tomorrow’s race.”

With her superb qualifying effort, Dufault picked up five crucial championship points towards the coveted ARCA Racing Series championship title which resumes tomorrow after nearly a two month sabbatical.

“Points are good,” she added. “Our goal for tomorrow is to stay up front and not make any mistakes. I’ll have Mike (Calinoff) up spotting for me tomorrow and with his experience, I know I’ll have a shot to be in contention for a good finish if not a win for our sponsors and everyone at Tony Marks Racing.”

Tony Marks, a successful entrepreneur from Ohio has been very pleased with the development and progression of his young race team and was rightfully thrilled with today’s results. “Maryeve and the entire TMR team did a fabulous job,” he said. “We came here and showed the field that we have a great race car and I feel that Maryeve can take VR-12, Dodge, Victory Water and all who support us to victory lane. It’s been a great day so far, hopefully it will keep going into tomorrow!”

A short happy hour final practice session has been etched in for competitors tomorrow but the TMR has not fully decided if they will participate in the run.

The 3 Amigos 250 (94 laps / 250 miles) is the second of 19 events on the 2011 ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards schedule. The 49th ever ARCA race at Talladega Superspeedway is a two-day show. Menards pole qualifying presented by Ansell is set for later today slated to begin at 5:05 p.m. Coverage of time trials is available online through the ARCA Racing Network (ARN) online at arcaracing.com in collaboration with Alabama’s local WTDR Thunder 92.7 FM. A 45-minute final practice has been etched in on Friday, April 15 from 10:00 a.m. – 10:55 a.m. The event will take the green flag that afternoon shortly after 4:00 p.m. The race will be televised live on SPEED with additional live broadcasting available through the ARCA Racing Network (ARN) online at arcaracing.com in collaboration with Alabama’s local WTDR Thunder 92.7 FM. “No. 12 VR 12 / Dodge Motorsports Dodge Charger Quickest Charger At Talladega”

TALLADEGA, Ala. (April 14, 2011) - - Maryeve Dufault driver of the No. 12 VR-12 / Dodge Motorsports Dodge Charger posted an impressive third fastest time overall during the ARCA Racing Series three hour practice session leading up to tomorrow’s 3 Amigos 250 at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway.

Dufault, the ARCA Racing Series Rookie of the Year candidate for Tony Marks Racing (TMR) led the session early at the 2.66-mile superspeedway before eventually falling to the third fastest time overall. She turned 23 laps overall with her fastest lap being a 51.969 seconds or 184.264 miles per hour.

“I’m real excited,” said Dufault, who will make her second career ARCA Racing Series start Friday afternoon. “The entire Tony Marks Racing team have given me a great VR 12 / Dodge Motorsports Dodge Charger for Talladega. I’m anxious for qualifying later today and hopefully we can have a good race tomorrow and learn a lot.”

She added, “even though this is my first trip to Talladega, I really enjoy the track. VR-12, Dodge and all of our other sponsors deserve some time to be in the spotlight, so hopefully our strong start will continue.”

With qualifying set for later today, Dufault remained optimistic about a pole-contending run but felt their VR 12 / Dodge Motorsports hot rod would be starting near the front. “I’d like to hope that we have a shot at the pole, but I would be happy if we end up somewhere in the top-five. We just have to remain focused the rest of the day and hope for the best.”

Thunder Road PR : SWEET TO DEFEND THUNDER ROAD TITLE AND MERCHANTS BANK OPENER

For Immediate Release                                                ACT – 041411-19

Waterbury, VT – Every hometown needs sports heroes. Barre, VT is a sports town. The “Granite Capital of the World” is a blue collar town with master craftsmen making a living working with huge slabs of granite, which their neighbors have hauled deep from inside Quarry Hill that looks over the city below.

For over fifty years, racing at Thunder Road International Speedbowl has been part of the fabric of this town and region. The latest local hero to follow in the tradition of local and regional heroes like Stub Fadden, Ronnie Marvin, Roy ‘Pappy’ Forsythe, Harold ‘Hardluck’ Hanaford, the Dion Brothers, Joey Laquerre and dozens more is another local kid, Nick Sweet, from Barre.

Sweet came through the Thunder Road system with remarkable success. He was awarded the Rookie of the Year honors in all levels he competed in, including the 2003 Allen Lumber Street Stock division, and the 2005 Tiger-Sportsman division, considered by many to be the most competitive division in weekly short track racing, where he also earned the Thunder Road track title in 2007.  In 2008 he moved to the region’s most successful touring series, the American Canadian Tour (ACT), and won the Rookie of the Year.

His Saint J Auto team followed what seems to be a three-year success pattern by winning the Thunder Road “King of the Road” title in 2010. It was one of the most hotly contested battles for a title in the 51-year history of the track. Entering the final event of the 2010 season, Sweet held off two former Thunder Road Champions, Phil Scott (1996, 1998, and 2002) and David Pembroke (2007) to win the title by just 6 points.

“I think Nick (Sweet) has a very good chance to repeat in 2011,” said seven-time ACT Champion and 2009 Thunder Road Champion, Jean Paul Cyr from Milton, VT. “At Thunder Road you have to have a lot of trust and respect, Nick has earned and given both. That is a big key to winning at that track. Getting around people on the outside is critical, and he does that as well as anyone. I would race him anywhere, anytime. He does not get rattled, he takes what the track and race gives him, and I think he is one of the most well-rounded racers in short track racing today”, Cyr said.

Sweet scored his first-ever ACT Late Model win in the traditional Merchants Bank 150 opening event at Thunder Road in 2010. It was an ACT point event and not a point-counting Thunder Road race. “It was great to win the opener at the ‘Road last year and gave us some great momentum going into the season. We really wanted to give our sponsor, Saint J Auto maximum exposure last season, and that was a good way to start. I guess winning the title at Thunder Road was also a pretty good way to finish,” said the always humble Nick Sweet.

The thirteenth (13th) annual Merchants Bank 150 will have a huge field of past champions. The driver of the Merchants Bank Ford entry is three-time Thunder Road Champion, Cris Michaud from Northfield, VT.

“First, I would really like to win my sponsor’s race. Next, I would really like to beat Nick Sweet for the 2011 Thunder Road title, but his team is just plain old school and hard working. They are tough. His dad Shayne is meticulous in preparation. Nick has become one of the best drivers to race against at Thunder Road. We struggled with our new Ford program last year, and I really had a tough season not being in contention for the title. We think we have solved our problems during the off-season and I am excited to get started again,” said Michaud.

“I think there will be as many as five serious contenders for the Thunder Road title this year and there are also going to be some interesting additional teams coming back to Thunder Road this summer. It should be fun and sure looks like it is going to be different than the last couple years. I can’t wait,” concluded Michaud.

A great bellowing on Ailsa Craig.

We heard the bellowing long before we came to the south foghorn on Ailsa Craig.

It obviously wasn't coming from the foghorn as it has been silent since 1966. We passed a row of nine massive but rusting compressed air tanks that provided the "oomph" for the horn. They were supplied by a 2.5" inch pipe that ran 700m from the compressor in the gasworks round to the south of the island.

DID YOU KNOW?

  • RPM Motorsports has won seven of the last eight ACT championships, including the last two with Brian Hoar behind the wheel.
  • Brian Hoar sat on the pole for this race in 2009, his first race with RPM Motorsports.
  • RPM Motorsports and Brian Hoar won one of the two ACT Goodyear Speedweeks Cup 100s at New Smyrna Speedway in New Smyrna Beach, Fla., in February.

WHAT THEY'RE SAYING

BRIAN HOAR, Driver of the No. 37 GossCars.com Dodge, On opening the season this weekend at Lee USA Speedway: “I love the track. I always seem to run well there, and I can't wait to get back there. It's a really good track for our Late Model package.

I like Lee. I've always liked Lee, even when I was there in the (NASCAR K&N Pro Series East) cars. The last couple of years, I've been really fast at Lee – but I don't totally feel vindicated there. I've led a lot of laps, but like last year, I just used it up by the end. I had nothing left for the leaders over the last 20 laps or so.”

On starting the championship chase with good finishes early in the season: “Obviously, it's not the end of the world if you have a bad race, but it's a helluva lot more fun to get off on the right foot. You've kind of got to plan on having a bad race or two at some point in the year, but the nice thing is if you can put those bad races off until the end – then you can build up a point lead and have some padding.

I'm very confident we'll go down and be competitive right off (at Lee). I haven't gone there with (RPM Motorsports owner Rick Paya) yet and not had a great chance. I'm looking forward to what happens.”

On the track configuration at Lee USA Speedway: “I feel like it races like a bigger track. It's got real straightaways, serious braking in the corner where you really plant the nose, there's a wall all the way around the outside of the track, and you've got an inside groove. You kind of go from the outside to the inside getting into the turn and you really try to hold that apex.

The other thing about Lee is that it races different than it practices. You may feel like you've got a good car in practice or qualifying, and then all of a sudden in the feature it's totally different The track is really old and it doesn't have a lot of grip. It loses grip quickly and then the cars really start sliding around.

It almost acts like a progressive banked track. It certainly makes for an interesting race.”

RICK PAYA, RPM Motorsports owner and crew chief for the No. 37 GossCars.com Dodge, On racing at Lee USA Speedway: “I love it. It's a very challenging track. It's unique, so it's hard to get a handle on it. I really always look forward to going to Lee.

It has an inside groove and an outside groove, especially as the tires start to wear out. The wall all the way around the track on the outside is intimidating for a lot of people. I like it. It's a challenging track from a setup standpoint.”

THE STORY

Cody Hodgson of Escalon, Calif., seeks his second straight Top-10 finish to start his career when the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East stops at South Boston Speedway in South Boston, Va., for the South Boston 150 on Saturday, April 16. Hodgson, who is running for the Sunoco Rookie of the Year award in the series, tested at South Boston last week and is looking to carry the momentum of a 10th-place run in the season opener at Greenville Pickens Speedway two weeks ago into the second event on the 2011 schedule.

NEXT RACE: April 28, Blue Ox 100, Richmond International Raceway, Richmond, Va. (.750-mile D-oval)

POINTS POSITION (after 1 event): 10th

DID YOU KNOW?

  • Cody Hodgson finished 10th at Greenville Pickens Speedway two weeks ago, giving him a Top-10 finish in his very first race in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East.
  • Dave Davis Motorsports finished 7th in this race in 2009 with driver Sean Caisse.
  • When he's back home in Escalon, Calif., Cody Hodgson is a big fan of wakeboarding.

WHAT THEY'RE SAYING

CODY HODGSON, Driver of the No. 03 Ocala Gran Prix Dodge, On getting back to the track after a solid debut performance at Greenville Pickens Speedway: “I've been really anxious since Greenville to get back in the car. I was glad we got to to test last Friday at South Boston. It went really well.

We were really happy, especially when we compared ourselves to some of the other fast cars that were there. We were really comparable with (Max Gresham, who won the pole and the race at South Boston in 2010). That was really good, especially for my first time being there.”

On his impressions of South Boston: “It's a little rough. But it's fun to drive on; it's a fast little track and you really run some good speeds on it.

I really like the short track stuff. It's a little more like karting, where you can feel the horsepower, feel the car and what it's doing, all of that stuff.”

On his goals from week to week in the series: “They're pretty much the same as they were (at the start of the season). After the first race, I know where I'm at with my skill level and I know what kind of equipment and what kind of cars I have. I knew at end of Greenville that we were capable of a Top-5 if everything had gone right.

I think the biggest thing is making sure I qualify well. The main thing is just being consistent – starting up front, being in the Top-5 and pulling out a win or two would be a perfect season for us. We're definitely capable of that.”

DAVE DAVIS, owner of Dave Davis Motorsports and the No. 03 Ocala Gran Prix Dodge, on his outlook for this weekend: “It's a hard track to pass at. Qualifying up front and staying up there is going to be the key to the whole race. Definitely after Greenville, I think Cody has a better idea of hard he has to run at the beginning of a race. (Greenville) was kind of my fault, because I just paced him too long. He was a rocket ship over the last 30 laps, and I probably should have let him go sooner – but I just was worried about wearing out the tires.

But I'm feeling really good about this weekend. We had a really, really good test (at South Boston). It was better than I even thought it would be. I think Cody definitely knows a little better what he needs to do. He really picked up (speed). We ran a mock (qualifying) run that was faster than the pole speed last year. The car was really awesome – really, really good – on 100-lap old tires.”

Dragon PR : Lee USA Speedway Race Preview

THE STORY

Brent Dragon of Milton, Vt., rolls on with the ACT Late Model Tour as it opens the 2011 season with the NH Governor's Cup 150 at Lee USA Speedway in Lee, N.H., on Sunday afternoon, April 17. Dragon has competed on the Tour every year since its inception in 1992 and is fourth on the all-time series win list with nine career victories. Though he's never won at Lee USA, he does consider it one of his favorite stops on the circuit – in part because it reminds him so much of Airborne Speedway in Plattsburgh, N.Y., where he won multiple Late Model track championships. Dragon will compete this weekend in a car fielded by Avery Motorsports, part of a joint effort with his own Dragon Motorsports team this season.

ACT LATE MODEL TOUR

NEXT RACE: May 1, Merchants Bank 150, Thunder Road International Speedbowl, Barre, Vt. (.25-mile oval)

FINAL POINTS POSITION (2010): 3rd

DID YOU KNOW?

  • Brent Dragon owns 187 career ACT Late Model Tour starts, the most in series history.
  • The last time Brent Dragon competed in an ACT-sanctioned race in a car fielded by an owner other than himself was in 1995, when he drove for Ellery Packard.
  • Brent Dragon has more starts, Top-10 finishes (123) and laps completed (21,669) than anybody in ACT history.
  • An avid bowhunter in the offseason, Brent Dragon has entered Maine's annual moose permit lottery in 2011.

WHAT THEY'RE SAYING

BRENT DRAGON, Driver of the No. 55 Furniture World of VT/Beverage Mart/Charlesbois Freightliner Chevrolet, On racing at Lee USA Speedway: “I like Lee a lot. It reminds me a lot of the old Airborne (Speedway) track.

It's the way the track is pretty well worn out. The cars change a lot throughout the race. You've just got to be ready for that, that's the big thing. They really change from the start to the finish of the race. After you've been going there a few years you start to figure that out. I think it's why the locals always seem to have huge advantage over us when we go there.”

On driving for Avery Motorsports for the first time: “I'm pretty excited about it. I feel like we've had a lot of time to really get both of the cars ready.

It's going to be different just driving for somebody else. I'll try and treat it as if it were mine – that's the only way to approach it. You still have to go out and finish every race. That's what it's going to take to be in it for the championship at the end of the year.”

On the importance of getting off to a strong start in 2011: “You've got to start off good. It makes the season go a lot better, that's for sure. People are chasing you. It's so hard to make up ground when it's the same guys week after week.

Early in the year, there are so many cars you can make up points. Later in the year, though, it's always the 10 or 12 guys that travel everywhere. That just makes it so hard to make up ground.”

UP NEXT

The ACT Late Model Tour heads to the Merchants Bank 150 at Thunder Road International Speedbowl on Sunday, May 1 for the second race of the season... Thunder Road has always been a good track for Brent Dragon, who is a four-time race winner at the historic quarter-mile. Most notably, Dragon won the 2006 Milk Bowl at Thunder Road.
