For a few years now I've used a Moleskine Cahier notebook to record my observations and now, finally, I've run out of space. I have already started the replacement, this time a Clairefontaine notebook with much nicer paper and a slightly bigger size. I've also changed pens: after using a Uni-Ball rollerball pen I bought a green Pilot 78G to use with the Cahier. Then I found the Pilot V-Pen (known as the Varsity in the US) which I emptied out of the original mint-green ink and replaced with black ink. Now, with a new notebook I have redeployed my Pilot Capless and filled it with the same black ink.

Although I have changed pens, I've not changed ink. I use Noodler's Bulletproof Black to record my observations, and at the rate I use this ink, my 3oz. bottle should last me years. I use bulletproof ink for its permanence; these observations probably are the only things I write which are worthy of preserving for the future, even though I have to write them subsequently on an Excel spreadsheet before they go into the BAA's database which starts in 1890. I also use it because of its waterproof quality as the nights can get quite damp here in England. But this is the only use I have for bulletproof ink; most of the time I use blue Quink or a pencil, even though, like many fountain pen users, I own a glut of ink in various colours from a wide variety of manufacturers.

Looking through the log, I see I started this notebook back in 2007. It doesn't have my earliest variable star observations, those are in another Moleskine I bought when I worked in London in 2005 (pictured, with the natty Duck Tape binding).
I own a few Moleskines, but I don't buy them now. I admit, I was taken in by the hype and the marketing ("the notebook of Picasso, Hemingway and Chatwin") but this was before I rediscovered fountain pens, and the fact that fountain pen ink bleeds like mad on the trademark yellowish Mole paper. The quality of the paper used is a constant source of angst on the Fountain Pen Network; I eventually found a nice replacement in the Clairefontaine, which I can buy locally too. Sometimes I wonder what Picasso or Hemingway would make of today's Moleskine notebooks. Would they complain about the quality of the paper or the fragile binding? Were they really that fussy about their paper or notebooks?
I've still got a few pages in the Duck Tape Moleskine but soon that will be history too. I also own a large plain Mole which has only a few pages filled in. I bought that to make sketches in but found the paper too thin, even for pencil sketches. Finally I have a small ruled Moleskine which serves as my general-purpose notebook and in which I write all kinds of things. When both notebooks are finished it's highly unlikely I'll buy Moleskines to replace them, however.

On the subject of Clairefontaine, I have several of their cahiers and an A5 pad of their drawing paper. Here's a picture of my new variable star logbook, this orange one being a handy size, with a cheerful colour (not that I can see it in the dark). The paper inside is superb: smooth and white, nicely-printed feint lines, no feathering, no bleedthrough. Couple that with a top-quality pen and ink, and the mundane business of recording a scientifc observation becomes a pleasure in itself.

The Four Cylinders kicked off the night with a fifty lap feature and a thirty-one car field. Kyle Hewins made it two in a row on PASS 400 Thursday night, surviving a torrid battle with Troy Jordan. The pair worked lap traffic for much of the night and Jordan got the better of Hewins from laps 11 to 26 but Hewins was able to drive under Morse to reclaim the lead. The pair put on a show as they worked lap traffic, splitting slower cars and battling for the $500.00 payday e but into the end it was Hewins by 6 car lengths. The 305/Mad Bomber feature was up next and Adam Lovejoy jumped out front early. Trouble was, Lovejoy made that jump a little too soon and he was docked four spots at the next yellow. That put Paul Ureneck out front on the restart but Lovejoy wasted no time getting to second, putting his ride on Ureneck’s bumper by lap 15. AT the half-way mark it was still Ureneck with Lovejoy hot on his heels, then a straightaway back to Kirk Bean, John Lord and Jason Inman. Lovejoy saw an opening on the bottom and took over the top spot at the line on lap 31 to claim the feature over Ureneck, Kirk Bean, Jon Lord and Jason Curtis. The Mighty Truckers were up next with Chad Binette and Troy Field occupying the front row Binette led lap one but Field hung tough on the outside and led lap two. Binette kept the pressure on but Field kept control, slowly building upon his lead. At the half way it was Fields, Binette, Brian Beaulieu, Duane Booth and Roger Allard the top five. Jeremy Binette moved up to run fourth with ten to go and Ryan Farrar broke into the top five. Farrar took fourth away from Jeremy Binette with five remaining. Binette caught Field in lapped traffic but Field made it three wide to keep the lead and take home the win by a truck length. The 350/Outlaws rolled out for the night’s final fifty lapper with Bill Childs Jr. and Mike Short leading the 33 car field to the green. Childs and Short raced the early laps like they were the final five, side by side and rubbing fenders. Short got the jump on an early restart but Childs kept his ride right on Short’s bumper with Chris Burgess and Corey Morgan giving chase. The caution flew on lap seven and race control sent Short to the back of the pack for jumping the previous restart. Short chose to take his mount to the pits and call it a night. That gave Childs back the point with Chris Burgess to his outside. Another early caution flew but not before Corey Morgan was able to take over second from Burgess. That set up a Childs/Morgan restart. Once again it was Childs in the lead with Morgan right on his bumper then Ryan Robbins, Burgess, and Dan Lovejoy third through fifth. Childs held the point at half way and Burgess reclaimed third from Robbins. The Outlaws were having a serious bout with yellow fever but Childs was keeping the field behind him with little difficulty. A lap 34 restart decided the race when Childs failed to come up to speed on the restart, sliding all the way back to fourth. It was Morgan to the lead with Burgess second but Childs was on the move, taking over second from Burgess with ten to go. Morgan had a ten car length advantage but Childs slowly narrowed the gap. Robbins spun out of fourth with eight to go, setting up a battle between Childs and Morgan for the win. The pair got an even restart with Morgan prevailing. Childs stayed right on his bumper, applying the chrome horn but Morgan withstood the challenge and slid across the finish line with an assist from Childs for the victory. Childs, Burgess, Dan Lovejoy and Brian Picard finished second through fifth. Saturday September 11 is race time with qualifying for the PASS Super Late Models, Mods and Sportsman plus feature racing for the Road Runners, Wildcat/Strictly and Legends divisions. The first green flies at 12:15 PM. Sunday September 12 will see 50 laps for the PASS Mods, 100 for the PASS Sportsman and a new addition for 2010, a 50 lapper for the North East Mini Stock Tour. Topping off the day will be the sixth annual PASS 300, 300 green flag laps for the super stars in the super cars. Sunday practice gets underway at 11:00 AM and the first feature is set for a 12:15 PM green flag. « Pour publication immédiate » Soirée Sani-Vac de grande importance à l’autodrome St-Eustache Des luttes intéressantes se dessinent ST-EUSTACHE – Comme pour tous les championnats dans le monde du sport, on travaille pendant des mois et des mois pour en arriver aux confrontations finales pour le couronnement coiffé du titre de « champion ». C’est vrai que ce soit pour tout sport confondu que ce soit le hockey, le baseball, le football et la course automobile, ce qui inclut la « chasse » aux honneurs dans le monde du stock-car comme on le vit présentement à l’autodrome de St-Eustache pour les compétiteurs des séries ANCA et NASCAR. |
Dans les deux classes de cette division de la série nord-américaine NASCAR Wheelen, il reste la Soirée Sani-Vac de ce samedi, le dernier sous les réflecteurs, et les courses de la semaine prochaine pour confirmer les positions finales. Cela laisse présager des épreuves intéressantes en Sport Compact NASCAR Lucas Oil et en Sportsman NASCAR Ippersiel. Même s’il est toujours à la recherche d’une première victoire en finale – il y en a eu 11 au total depuis le début de la saison – le jeune Dave Coursol de St-Jérôme, 16 ans, se retrouve dans le siège du conducteur en raison de sa grande régularité et de sa maturité pour éviter les incidents. « À moins d’un sérieux problème lors de l’une ou l’autre des deux dernières finales, ses chances de devenir le plus jeune pilote à être couronné dans cette classe sont excellentes. Depuis le début de l’année, il a été très impressionnant. C’est un titre qu’il n’aura pas volé, » précise Yves Ladouceur, le directeur des opérations courses. Le fils d’André Coursol, un pilote qui a remporté de nombreux succès à l’autodrome de St-Eustache au cours des dernières décennies, a maintenant 356 points. Il devance Marc-Antoine Demers, le pilote le plus performant des dernières semaines avec ses nombreuses victoires imputables à un pilotage très agressif, qui a 321 points après avoir devancé Stéphane Gauvreau (318) et Steve Ladouceur (306). Ce dernier, un ancien titulaire, était premier jusqu’à tout récemment avant d’éprouver de sérieuses difficultés lors des trois dernières finales. Claude Salois (263) complète le premier groupe de cinq. Ce classement pourrait être modifié car à l’issue de la soirée de samedi dernier, les moteurs des voitures de Marc-Antoine Demers, Claude Salois et Paul Jean ont été scellés. Ils seront vérifiés après les courses de ce samedi. En cas d’irrégularité, il pourrait y avoir double disqualification causant une influence à l’attribution des points. « Lorsque nous avons amorcé la saison, précise André Coursol, notre principal objectif était de lutter pour le titre dans la série Sport Compact NASCAR Lucas Oil et d’offrir la chance à Dave de prendre de l’expérience en Sportsman NASCAR Ippersiel en disputant quelques courses. Il m’a remplacé dès le deuxième week-end dans cette classe. Malgré ce handicap d’une course manquée nous avions le titre de « recrue de l’année » dans la mire. Disons que ça regarde bien, mais il ne faut pas lâcher avec les deux derniers programmes. » La recrue par excellence De toute évidence, le titre de recrue par excellence en Sportsman NASCAR Ippersiel est pratiquement confirmé alors qu’il reste quatre finales à disputer dont les deux de 50 tours de ce samedi lors de la soirée Sani-Vac. En raison de ses deux victoires, dont celle lors de la deuxième finale de samedi dernier, Dave (Coursol) se retrouve même parmi les cinq premiers au championnat. Aucun doute que s’il terminait la saison dans ce groupe, ça l’aiderait énormément dans son cahier de présentation auprès de commanditaires potentiels pour la suite de sa carrière. Cet énoncé s’applique aussi pour Steve Côté (19 ans), la révélation de l’année, qui revendique six victoires en 13 départs pour dominer le championnat avec 318 points. L’accident de Maxime Pelletier (28 août) et son retour samedi dernier avec une voiture neuve souffrant d’une mise au point adéquate, joue en sa faveur car ce dernier, 277 points, a un sérieux retard à combler. Il aurait besoin d’un sérieux coup de chance pour rejoindre Steve (Côté) au sommet, mais cela n’est pas impossible avec quatre finales à disputer pour conclure. Le champion en titre, Jonathan Bouvrette (261), connaît une saison difficile avec une seule victoire. Il aurait, lui aussi, besoin d’un peu d’aide de « Dame Chance » pour espérer conserver ses chances d’être couronné une deuxième saison consécutive. Jean-François Bouvrette (219) et Dave Coursol (218) complètent le groupe des cinq premiers. « C’est de moins en moins facile de gagner dans cette classe en 2010. Avec la victoire de Daniel (Descoste) la semaine dernière nous avons eu six vainqueurs différents (Steve Côté 6, Dave Coursol 2, Jonathan Bouvrette, Normand Lavigueur, Maxime Pelletier, Jean-François Bouvrette et Daniel Descoste), dont celles obtenues par deux jeunes de moins de 20 ans. « C’est très encourageant pour la relève. Cela nous confirme que nous avions pris la bonne décision en créant la série Sportsman NASCAR Ippersiel malgré les difficultés rencontrées. On a, en 2010, ajouter un élément important en modifiant le déroulement des deux finales de 50 tours, notamment avec les huit première positions inversées, » ajoute Alan Labrosse, le promoteur/propriétaire. Classes de soutien Outre ces trois finales en NASCAR, il y a en aura deux autres pour les compétiteurs de l’association locale ANCA, soit en Challenge 4 ANCA Meilleur Ramoneur et en Production (ANCA) Centre Chiniara/SN. « Nous avons offert aux compétiteurs en Légende Modifiée ANCA Lettrage Provan un week-end de congé en prévision de la Classique 200 que l’on doit reprendre dimanche de la semaine prochaine. Par contre en Challenge 4, la finale sera de 50 tours et nous pourrions bien avoir plus de 40 voitures dans le paddock. Cela signifierait des qualifications obligatoires pour avoir une place sur la grille de départ, » d’ajouter Yves Ladouceur. La série Mr DIRTcar-358 nous rend visite samedi prochain, alors que Hamel Propane présente le Racemania 6 avec 160 tours modifié. Cette manche de la série est la plus importante au Canada avec 10000$ au gagnant. |
Lors du Racemania présenté en 2008, on a eu pas moins de cinquante et un modifié et l’an passé cinquante-trois voitures se sont présentées à l’autodrome Drummond. Pour l’occasion ce week-end on attend tout près de soixante des meilleurs pilotes modifié. Danny O’Brien et Jimmy Phelps ont remporté les deux dernières éditions du Racemania. Cette année qui sera le vainqueur de la plus prestigieuse épreuve de mod-358, après le Super DIRT Week a Syracuse? Brett Hearn, Billy Decker, Pat O’Brien, Dale Plank et Danny Johnson voudront certainement se sauver avec la victoire, mais nos réguliers les attendent de pieds fermes, Yan Bussière, Mario Clair, David Hébert et Kayle Robidoux pour ne nommer que ceux-ci veulent ramener le titre au Québec. Après un Ontarien et un Américain est-ce que se sera au tour d’un Québécois de mettre la main sûre la somme de 10000$ après les 160 tours obligatoires. Une chose est certaine les amateurs en sortiront gagnant avec tous les gros noms sur cette même piste, ça ne peut qu’être une course des plus excitante et intéressante. Au programme également les classes sportsman, pro-stock et STR. L’action débute à 16hrs. REVSTAR ABF: Une autre victoire de Sébastien Gougeon
Sébastien Gougeon met fin à la séquence victorieuse de Yannick Poirier Les amateurs ont eu droit une fin de course spectaculaire entre Yannick Poirier et Sébastien Gougeon, le vainqueur de l'épreuve. Yannick Poirier avait été favorisé par le tirage au sort, il partait de la deuxième place sur la grille de départ, alors que Sébastien Gougeon avait fort à faire en s'élançant de la 9e position. Toutefois, Gougeon n'a pas tardé à se mettre au travail, il a effectué une remonté irrésistible pour s'emparer des commandes de l'épreuve au 20e tours. |
Même rendu en tête de l'épreuve, Sébastien Gougeon ne l'a pas eu facile. Une lutte de tous les instants s'est intallée à l'avant du peloton, Gougeon a du résister aux attaques soutenues de la part du pilote recru Gabriel Richer ainsi que le vainqueur des deux dernières épreuves, Yannick Poirier. Durant ce temps, Jean-François Tessier et Patrick Vignault ne se faisaient pas de quartier, ils s'échangeaient constamment les positions 4 et 5. Jean-François Tessier aura finalement le dessus et il va terminer en 3e position tout juste devant Patrick Vigneault qui ne l'a pas lâché. La course a été neutralisée au 24 tour lorsqu'un drapeau jaune a été déployé. À la relance, Poirier a continué de s'attaquer à Sébastien Gougeon et cette fois avec succès, puisqu'il reprend la tête de l'épreuve au 29e tour. Sébastien Gougeon n'avait pas l'intention de se contenter d'une deuxième place, il a mis de la pression sur Poirier qui a commis une faute au virage numéro 4, Sébatien Gougeon en a profité pour le dépasser et filer directement vers le drapeau à damier. Les deux prochaines courses de type NATIONAL vont clore le calendrier 2010, d'abord 10 septembre à Granby et dès le lendemain le 11 septembre à l'Autodrome Drummond. Ces deux épreuves seront disputées sur la terre battue. Pour l'occasion, de 6 à 8 pilotes américains sont attendus pour ce programme double. C'est un rendez vous à ne pas manquer!

NHMS ACT INVITATIONAL ANNOUNCES MORE 2010 INVITEES
For Immediate Release - ACT – 090710-52 Waterbury, VT – The American Canadian Tour (ACT) has announced another round of invited teams who have been invited to participate in the second ACT Invitational to be held at the regions largest sporting complex, the New Hampshire Motor Speedway (NHMS) on Saturday, September 18, 2010. The event will be held as one of three preliminary events leading to the Sunday, September 19th first ‘Chase’ for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Championship. The ACT teams will join the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour and the Camping World Truck Series in a spectacular triple-header event on Saturday, September 18. |
The first group of ACT teams, selected a week ago, represented the winners of 2010 championship events and track champion candidates with a few ‘at large’ selections. This announcement is primarily teams from an ‘at large’ pool who participated in a test and tune session last month at the Speedway. “This group represents sixteen (16) more teams in the selection process. This has been one of the most difficult jobs I have had in the racing business. We had 71 teams test and they all did a great job. They really are all deserving of being part of the 43 team starting grid. That is the problem; there are only 43 spots for 71 worthy teams,” said Tom Curley, President of the American Canadian Tour. Pro All Stars Series news: PASS 400 weekend Thursday night open preview
Mid Week Warriors kick off PASS 400 Weekend at Beech Ridge Thursday Naples ME (9/6) Their racing divisions have the best names in the sport;; Mad Bombers, Mighty Trucks, Outlaws, Varsity, Runnin’ Rebels, Beetle Bugs and a whole bunch more. They’re the Mid Week Warriors that take little more than a street car (or truck), add the required safety equipment and go racing. For many competitors they are in their first race car ever, and for others the mid week racing wars are just perfect for their budget. It takes cubic inches and talent to win at this level, not cubic dollars. |
Maine’s midweek racers put on some of the most competitive and exciting racing out there and they will be in the spotlight Thursday September 9th when they kick off PASS 400 weekend ay Scarborough Maine’s Beech Ridge Motor Speedway. Depending on car count there’s up to fifty laps of racing and five hundred dollars on the line for the winners. That payday is more than most of these guys and gals can earn in a season, so there’s plenty of incentive to win this one. The back gate at Beech Ridge swings open at noon and practice gets underway at 2:00 PM. 2009 Thursday night feature wins went to Kyle Hewins (Runnin’ Rebel four cylinder), Chad Binette ( MightyTrucks), Jason Curtis (Junior Varsity) and Larry Emerson (Outlaws). The biggest Maine racing week of 2010 gets started Thursday at 5:45 PM. There’s a full day of practice set for Friday September 10th starting at 12:00 noon. On Saturday September 11th the racing goes green in earnest with qualifying races for the PASS Super Late Models, Mods and Sportsman plus feature racing for the Road Runners, Wildcat/Strictly and Legends divisions. Then on Sunday its feature racing time with extra distance for every division. There are 50 laps on tap for the PASS Mods, 100 for the PASS Sportsman and a new addition for 2010, a 50 lapper for the New England Mini Stock Tour. Topping off the day will be the sixth annual PASS 300, 300 green flag laps for the super stars in the super cars of the Pro All Stars Series with a cool $10,000.00 on the line for the 300 winner. Sunday practice gets underway at 11:00 AM and the first feature is set for a 12:15 PM green flag. Les dirigeants de l’Autodrome Granby sont confiants de dépasser ce nombre. Lors de l’édition 2009 Brett ‘ The Jet’ Hearn semblait filer vers la victoire, un ennui mécanique l’a contraint à abandonner la course. Billy Decker trônait sur la première marche du podium qui était complété par Larry Wight et Mario Clair ( Champion 2010). Une finale de 150 tours Modifié sera présentée. Les voitures de la catégorie Sportsman s’élanceront pour une finale de 50 tours. Pour compléter la soirée, les petits bolides Revstar auront droit à une finale de 20 tours. Une 2e voiture Chevrolet Cobalt 2010 sera remise lors de l’intermission, tout les billets accumulés depuis le début de la saison sont éligibles à ce tirage. Le prix d’entrée sera de $ 40.00. Pour commémorer son souvenir, la nouvelle direction de l’Autodrome Granby a décidé d’instaurer une course spéciale. 3 finales de 97 tours compléteront la saison 2010 sur le circuit de la rue Cowie. Les Modifié, les Sportsman et les Pro-Stock se partageront la piste. Brett ‘The Jet’ Hearn a confirmé sa présence pour vendredi et dimanche le 12 septembre. Chase Elliott Captures PASS South Labor Day Classic 200 at North Wilkesboro Speedway 14-Year-Old Georgia Racer Puts His Name in the Record Books 14 Years after Last Major Event at the Historic North Carolina Track The PASS South Super Late Models headed to the historic North Wilkesboro Speedway in North Wilkesboro, North Carolina, for “The Labor Day Classic 200” event at the track on Saturday, September 4th, 2010 - the first major racing event at the facility since Jeff Gordon won in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series back in 1996. After Andy Loden set a new track record during qualifying 14-year-old Chase Elliott, son of legendary NASCAR racer Bill Elliott, drove his #9 machine to victory lane as the first major touring series winner in the past 14 years at the track, a place where his father ran strong but never claimed a victory. |
“This is pretty cool,” said Chase Elliott in victory lane. “For them (his father’s NASCAR race team) to not get a win here was big because they dominated back in those years. It is really cool to be a part of the names that won here.” The PASS Super Late Models made their way to the track for qualifying on the 0.625 mile facility under a warm North Carolina sun. Going out eighth in line, Loden broke the track record set on April 17th, 1994 by Ernie Irvan with a lap of 18.815 seconds. “It’s awesome,” said Loden after qualifying. “The track is in really good shape. I am just glad to be here. Tom Mayberry (PASS President) has done a really good job putting this thing together and I am really glad we got this thing going here at North Wilkesboro after 14 years.” After the top-10 redraw fifth-place qualifier Kenzie Ruston was to start on the outside pole alongside ninth-place qualifier Jody Lavender, but a problem with her car sent her to the pits before the green flag dropped, moving fourth-place qualifier Devin Jones to the outside front row. When the green flag dropped, Lavender took off and led early with Jones and Ryan Blaney in tow. The driver on the move in the early laps of the race was Elliott, who moved into the fourth spot from ninth before lap 25. The first yellow flag flew on lap 34 for a heavy amount of fluids on the race track, which came out from underneath of Trey Mitchell’s #47 machine. Mitchell spun in his own fluids in turn two with Samantha Vannoy also going around on the slick track, but both were able to keep their cars out of the wall. Vannoy was able to continue, but Mitchell headed to the garage. On the restart, Lavender was able to maintain the lead with Jones in second, followed by Blaney, Elliott and Loden. The second yellow flag flew on lap 36, just a few laps after the first restart, when both Justin Allison and Joey Coulter went for a spin on the front stretch. They were both able to get their cars turned around and tagged the rear of the field. The following restart almost turned into a disaster for the entire field as Blaney appeared to have missed a shift coming up to speed. The field scattered down the front stretch with cars diving for a spot to go. Blaney was able to get back up to speed, but lost multiple positions in the process. At the 50-lap mark Lavender continued to pace the field with Jones, Elliott, Loden and Blaney running in the top-five positions. Over the following 30 laps the battle was for second position as Elliott tried everything he could to get around Jones for the spot. Elliott was able to finally get around Jones, putting him into the second spot before the halfway mark. Loden was also able to work his way around Jones for third with Jones and Blaney rounding out the top five at the crossed flags with only 10 cars on the lead lap. Over the next 28 laps Elliott worked his way to the back bumper of Lavender and multiple times pulled to his inside, but backed out as he seemed content to ride in the second position. The third yellow flag flew at lap 128 for debris, which set up pit stops for the leaders. Winning the battle off pit road was Elliott, who was followed by Lavender and Loden, but Loden had to pit once again as he left his pits with the fuel can attached to the car. Blaney, Jimmy Weller and Derek Ramstrom were penalized for pulling down too early to pit and had to restart at the tail of the field. Blaney made his way back to pit road before the restart with a problem with his car, taking him off the lead lap and out of contention for the win. On the restart Elliott jumped out to the lead with Joey Coulter running in the second position. Lavender, Corey Williams and Jones rounded out the top-five running order with only nine cars on the lead lap. For the next 50 laps Elliott set a torrid pace out front, leaving the rest of the field in his wake. The fourth yellow came out on lap 186 as Brandon Ward slammed the wall in turn two, doing significant damage to his #62 machine, but he was able to get out of his car and was ok. On the restart with fewer than 15 laps remaining, Elliott and Lavender lead Jones, Coulter, Williams, Loden, Alex Fleming and Ramstrom to the green flag as the only cars on the lead lap. Lavender was able to get the jump on the outside, reclaiming the top spot, but a yellow just a few laps later for a spin in turn four by Preston Peltier reset the field once again. This time Lavender was on the inside of Elliott for the restart. Showing power at the end of the race, Elliott ran on the outside of Lavender for two laps before finally clearing him, putting himself back into the lead and into victory lane. “Early in the race I was just there running with what the car would give me ,” said Elliott. “I didn’t want to wear the tires out and we just wanted to see what we would have for the second half of the race. The car was good, but we still need to work with it. I think everyone needs to get a race here to get the cars where we need them for when we come back. There is nothing that simulates what we do in the race. “The restart where I lost the lead, I lost sight of the flagman. I just screwed it up. I thought I had a shot there after I got going since there were still about 15 laps to go, but then we got the second caution.” Lavender was looking for the checkered flag first in the closing laps, but had to settle for second. “All in all, I can’t complain,” said Lavender. “I thought I had him, but he passed me clean and got me on the high side. At the end I was spinning my tires and got sideways. I told my guys there at the end that tire conservation went out the window and I was going for the win. Unfortunately Chase was a little bit better than us in the end.” Even though Loden wanted the win, he was satisfied with setting the track record and finishing third. “It was a pretty good run,” said Loden. “It was a good points day for us and I know we gained some. Having the track record is a bonus for being able to race here.” Coulter and Jones rounded out the top five. In the 50-lap Limited Late Model division feature, Jesse Little took the lead on the start of the race from pole-setter Mack Little III, but a few laps later, Mack Little took the top spot and never looked back to take the first victory of the afternoon, prior to the PASS South race. Rock Harris, Ryan Robertson, Andy Favre and Jesse Little rounded out the top five. In the 25-lap Stadium Stock feature, Randy Freeze took the early lead from the pole without much of a challenge during the first half of the race, however, during the second half, Wayne Hill made his presence known, taking the top spot. With fewer than five laps remaining, Michael Tucker worked his way to the front and held on to win the feature. Hill, Freeze, Chuck Wall and Brandon Brendle rounded out the top five. In the 35-lap Allison Legacy Series feature, Justin Allison led early from the pole position and looked like he was on his way to victory lane, but a torrid battle midway through the race shuffled him out of the top spot, putting Garrett Bunch in the lead. After a late-race restart, Bunch went for a ride after battling hard for the win with Gus Dean, receiving damage, taking him out of the chance for the victory. Dean was able to take the green flag with just a few laps to go, holding on to win the event. Allison, Tyler Hill, Jantzen Stirewalt and Quinn Fowler rounded out the top five. Round four of the five race PASS National Championship series gets the green on Sunday September 12th at Scarborough Maine’s Beech Ridge Motor Speedway. The PASS 400 weekend will see qualifying take place on Saturday September 11.
